Good Girl Cafe and Bookstore was supposed to open on South Broadway in July. The doors at 2807 S. Broadway opened on Sept. 13 instead. Colorado Community Media's Littleton Independent reported that construction issues and a permitting oversight caused the delay. While the storefront waited, owner Meg Garcia-Jahrman ran an online store and sold at pop-up events, which kept her employees working and moved some of the inventory.
That gap of about two months between plan and opening day is a useful way to read the corridor this fall. The next group of South Broadway businesses is scheduled for a public hearing on Wednesday, Nov. 4, at 11 a.m., when Englewood's Liquor and Marijuana Licensing Authority takes up several new liquor-license applications. For anyone who wants to know what's coming to their part of Broadway, the city's notices are the earliest public signal.
The shop that just made it through
Good Girl is now open, and it's worth a visit before the next wave arrives. The Littleton Independent describes it as a romance-only bookstore and cafe. The shelves are sorted by subgenre, from contemporary to dark romance to a section for local authors. The drinks are named after romance-novel tropes. "The Slap Shot" is a chai latte with espresso, "The Good Girl" is a raspberry white chocolate mocha, "The Golden Retriever" is a honey and cinnamon latte, and "The Black Cat" is a London fog with lavender syrup.
Garcia-Jahrman told the Littleton Independent why she picked this part of the corridor:
"I love that we're in Englewood because I love the South Broadway area. I come here for thrift shopping, vintage shopping, go to bars down here, do all that fun stuff, and eat down here too, because there's some really good food."
The same article says she chose the site partly because it has a parking lot with an accessible space. She also set the shop up for people to stay as long as they like, since many coffee shops limit seating to two hours. Westword's weekly openings column for Sept. 19 led with the opening and noted the "roller coaster of delays and setbacks" before it.
Three applications, one Wednesday morning
The Nov. 4 hearing is where the next openings start to take shape. Here's what the city has posted:
| Applicant | Address | License sought | Notice posted |
|---|---|---|---|
| Corvus Coffee Roasters / The Fox & The Raven Bakery | 3395 S. Broadway, Suite 130 | New hotel and restaurant liquor license | Aug. 27, 2026 |
| The Den | 3467 S. Broadway | New tavern liquor license | Sept. 11, 2026 |
| La Morena Family Restaurant 4 | 200 W. Belleview Ave., Unit 100 | New hotel and restaurant liquor license | Aug. 27, 2026 |
The Fox and The Raven Bakery's own site lists "New Location Coming Soon" at 3395 S. Broadway, along with a rendering of the building. It gives no opening date. The city's notice lists the applicant as a combined Corvus Coffee Roasters and Fox & The Raven Bakery business at that address.
The Den calls itself a family social club. Its South Broadway location, which it calls SoBo, is marked "Coming Soon" at 3467 S. Broadway. The Den's website lists a members-only clubhouse tier at $198 a month. That tier covers both its LoHi and SoBo locations and includes coworking lounges, a private outdoor courtyard and curated beer and wine service in the evenings.
La Morena Family Restaurant 4 has applied for its license at 200 W. Belleview Ave. The hearing notice confirms the application and the date, but no opening date has been announced.
Good Girl's two-month slide is a reminder that none of these hearings comes with an opening date attached. The notices are public, though. Each one, including The Den's notice, says written comments can go to the City Clerk at 1000 Englewood Parkway until 5 p.m. on Nov. 3, and that public comment will also be heard at the hearing.
Room is opening up, too
The corridor also has new vacancies this fall. Westword's August closings roundup, published Sept. 1, listed Beirut Grill at 203 W. Hampden Ave. among the month's closures. It gave no final day of service. The September roundup, published Oct. 1, listed Western Sky Bar & Taproom at 4361 S. Broadway as closed. Westword noted that some closures in its roundups may have happened earlier than the month listed.
Those two addresses are now empty storefronts on the same corridor where three new applicants are waiting for their hearing.
The street is being rebuilt under all of it
The storefront changes are happening while the road itself is under construction. The city's South Broadway Complete Streets update, posted Oct. 5, says September crews worked on curb, gutter and drainage at Oxford Avenue, built a new bus pad there and relocated or replaced caissons near Belleview Avenue. Work planned for October:
- New shelters, benches and trash bins at the Chenango, Tufts, Quincy, Mansfield and Kenyon avenue bus stops
- Median work at Mansfield, Chenango, Quincy and Kenyon, with new median cover
- More sidewalk and light-pole work along the west side of South Broadway
- Topsoil in the new planter boxes, plus grading and cleanup
- Fresh pavement markings around Chenango, Tufts, Mansfield and Kenyon
The city says some of that work was rescheduled because of stormwater improvements, and that the order of the work may change with the weather.
A few blocks away, CityCenter Englewood is on a longer timeline. The city's Sept. 29 CityCenter update showed concept options that include local retail, a hotel, housing, parks, an outdoor performance venue and a beer garden. The update said no final master plan has been chosen, and Phase 1 design is expected in early 2027. So the Broadway storefronts are changing month to month, while CityCenter is still at the planning stage.
Until the new doors open
The city's own calendar fills the weeks between now and the hearing, and the weeks after it:
- Saturday, Oct. 24, 1 to 6 p.m.: Trunk or Treat Express is back for its second year at Belleview Park Farm & Train, 5001 S. Inca Dr. It includes a family-friendly haunted train ride and candy for kids. Tickets are $5 per person, children under 2 are free, and costumes are encouraged for all ages. Tickets and details are on the city's event page.
- Thursday, Oct. 29, 6 to 7 p.m.: Englewood Public Library hosts Dolls in the Dark, presented by the Denver Museum of Miniatures, Dolls & Toys, in the Anderson Room.
- Friday, Oct. 30, 6 to 8 p.m.: The library's Teen After Hours Zombie Prom takes over the Teen Room for ages 12 to 18.
- Saturday, Nov. 7, 10 a.m. to 3 p.m.: The Merry Mercantile Market comes to Malley Recreation Center, 3380 S. Lincoln St., three days after the license hearing.
- Saturday, Dec. 5: The city's Holiday Market runs from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the Civic Center, 1000 Englewood Parkway. The Holiday Tree Lighting follows from 3 to 6 p.m. at the same address, and the tree lights at 5:15 p.m.
By the Dec. 5 tree lighting, the Nov. 4 hearing will be a month in the past. Any of the three applicants could have its doors open by then, or could still be waiting, as Good Girl did this summer.
